Transport links
Due to a general lack of traffic, it’s pretty easy to get around Oyster Bay by car. Though, the suburb is small enough that you can also walk much of it for a bit of fresh air and exercise.
The nearest train stations are Jannali and Como, both of which will take you into the CBD in about 35-40 minutes. Or, you can jump on this same line to head out to Cronulla for a beach day, a trip which takes about 15 minutes.
Retail and Dining
Oyster Bay has a small shopping area on Como Road where you can visit a cafe or bakery, grab a few necessities or pop to the hairdresser. For those bigger shops, everything else you could need is just a few minutes away – supermarkets, big-brand stores and restaurant options.
Miranda Westfield is the major retail centre of the Sutherland Shire, just 10 minutes away by car. There’s also an alternative shopping centre slightly closer at Kareela which is approximately 5 minutes away which has a supermarket, take away options and a kids playground
For an additional range of takeaway and dining choices, Jannali town centre is a popular spot for Oyster Bay residents, just five minutes along Georges River Road.
Sports and recreation
Residents love Oyster Bay for its lack of traffic, stunning Georges River views and plentiful reserves and sporting grounds to keep the kids busy.
Como Pleasure Grounds is a local favourite, just next door and great for walking, swimming, boating and picnicking on the grass. There is also Carina Bay Reserve which has an off leash dog park and a horse riding arena. Oyster Bay does have a few green spaces of its own, including a sports oval, smaller parks and reserves these are great nearby options.
The Sutherland Shire itself is packed with considerably more sporting and weekend activities. There are clubs and teams for just about everything the kids would want to get involved with, plus the Royal National Park is just to the south and Cronulla Beach 20 minutes to the east.
